The word Maharashtra is made up of two words- Maha and Rashtra. Both these words mean – great country.
Maharashtra state was formed on 1 May 1960. The capital of this state in Mumbai. And the total number of districts is 36. At present, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra is Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari.
Maharashtra has a bicameral legislature. There are a total of 288 seats in the Legislative Assembly and a total of 78 seats in the Legislative Council. Apart from this, there are 48 seats in the Lok Sabha and 19 seats in the Rajya Sabha. The total area of this state is 307713 square km, which makes it the third largest state of India.
According to the current figures, the GDP here is $51 Billion and Per Capita GDP is $2,571.09. This figure is higher than the national average.
This state was created on 1 May 1960 on the demand of Marathi-speaking people. The official language of this state is Marathi. Apart from Marathi, the Hindi language is also spoken prominently here.
History of Maharashtra
Maharashtra has been the center of trade industry, commercial since ancient times. Because of this many rulers ruled in such a picture. In the beginning, it was ruled by the Vakatakas. Later the Yadavs defeated them. After the rule of the Yadavas, the Mughal ruler Alauddin Khilji established his rule here. After Khilji, Muslim ruler Mohammad bin Tughlaq, and Bahmani Sultans established their empire here. After that, under the leadership of Chhatrapati Shivaji, the Marathas fought against the Mughals and became the king of Maharashtra in 1680. After this, the British occupied this area. Maharashtra was formed after independence in 1947.
The major rivers of Maharashtra are Godavari, Pen Ganga, Mula, Bhima, Poorna, and Panchganga. Languages like Marathi, English, Konkani, etc. are spoken in this region. This state is surrounded by Karnataka Goa Telangana Gujarat Madhya Pradesh Chhattisgarh Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
Maharashtra state animal is squirrel, the state bird is a yellow-footed green pigeon, the state tree is mango and the state flower is Jarul.
This lid is an important part of the plateau. In which the Western Ghats is its physical base. The mountains of Satpura in the north and Chiroli-Bhamarbad-Gaikhuri in the east serve as the boundaries here.
It is one of the best states in India in the field of education. It has one central university, 21 deemed universities, and 19 state universities. IIT Bombay and Pune’s Indian Institute of Science Education and Research bring out great engineers and scholars.
