What are Panchatantra Stories?
Panchatantra is a Sanskrit word, the book is written in five chapters, due to which it was named Panchatantra. This book was composed by a great scholar Brahmin Pandit Vishnu Sharma ji. The reason behind his writing this book was that he wanted to educate the 3 retarded sons of a king through preaching animal stories. He was about 80 years old at the time he wrote this book.
The stories of Panchatantra are very ancient and they have also been translated into many languages, its oldest version is famous as ‘Tantrakhyayika’, whose origin is Kashmir. The first sophistication and paribrihan of Panchatantra was done by the famous Jain scholar Purnabhadra Suri in Samvat 1255 and the current version is based on this.
