Three Categories of Thirukkural
Thirukkural is divided into three parts – Dharma, Artha and Kama.
Book 1 – Aam (அறம்): The Book of Virtue (Dharma), deals with the moral values of a person and explains the essentials of Yoga Philosophy (Chapters 1-38) couplets 1-380
Book 2 – Poruḷ (பொருள்): The Book of Politics (Artha), has described the things related to socio-economic values, besides giving a detailed description in the context of politics, society and administration (chapters 39-108) couplets 381 1080.
Book 3 – Inbaum (இன்பம்): The Book of Love (Kama), gives full details about how you can deal with psychological values and also mentions things related to love (Chapters 109-133) couplets 1081-1330
Composition and Summary of Thirukkural
Thirukkural is considered to be the most famous literature in Tamil language. The biographical book Thirukkural is also known by many other names such as Poyamozhi, Muppal, Ulakapothumarai, Theivanul, Vayuraivazhthu and Uttaravedam.
It is believed that this book is the oldest. Thiruvalluvar has written this book with many thoughts because he has experienced many types of experiences, this book was composed on the basis of those experiences.
Thiruvalluvar is believed to have been born in Mylapore area of Chennai and his wife’s name was Vasuki.
The author of this book is Thiruvalluvar by many names such as Devapulavar, Poyil Pulavar and Perunavalar Thiruvalluvar.
1330 Thirukkural literature has touched every aspect of life not Thiruvalluvar and has described it in detail.
Many scholars believe that Thirukkural is a Jain author. In this context some of the following arguments were given Its first chapter is God-Praise, in which Rishabhdev, the first Tirthankara of Jainism has been praised.
